Brisbane and Darwin

Hey everybody,

Finally I find some time to write about my time I spent in Australia before starting to work in Melbourne. My first stop was Brisbane. After a 24h travel with stopover in Dubai (loved the airport, you can buy a Porsche in the Duty Free Shop :-)) and Singapore I finally arrived quite tired but happy in Brisbane.

An Australian friend which I met years ago in Austria picked me up and took me to his house were I was able to stay for the next days. The house was crowded with students and I really spent a good time there. I discovered Brisbane with one of the housemates who also had just arrived. To bad that I was raining most of the time. Isn't Queensland called the sunshine state??

After 5 days relaxing from jetlag in Brisbane I decided to travel on. Because it was so rainy and cold in Brisbane I decided to go to the place with the best weather - ok, let's look up the weather forecast in the newspaper - yeah, Darwin, 32 degrees celcius, sounds great, let's go there!

In short: Darwin was amazing! The city itself is small and not a beauty, but it has got great untouched beaches. But the best of Darwin is of course: the outback. We went to the Kakadu National Park to stay there for 4 days in the wilderness! Red land, waterfalls, sleeping under the stars, wild animals...just amazing.

A Toyota Landcruiser and our legs were our best friends to discover this jewel of nature. All of the guys in my group were quite laid back people, we grew together to a group quite quickly and really got friends, everything ended up in an invitation to Adelaide, Amsterdam and Berlin...

I was really a amazing time in Darwin as well in Brisbane, great for "acclimatize me to Australia". Thanks to all your guys out there who have made this time so special for me!!

Cheers
